For their 150th birthday in 2019, Heinz released 150 limited-edition Tomato Ketchup ‘Tattoo Edition’ bottles inspired by musician Ed Sheeran’s tattoo of the condiment’s label. Complete with tattoo sleeve and bespoke amplifier case, each bottle was signed by Sheeran. Three were auctioned although the majority were given away or sold to raise money for charity. For a short period, Sheeran-inspired ‘Edchup’ was also sold in shops and the singer, a huge fan of the sauce, featured in the advertising campaign.
The collaboration between Ed Sheeran and Heinz commenced with a public social media instagram post on 3 April 2019, when Ed Sheeran wrote: "Yo @heinz I have an idea for a tv ad if you wanna do one, if not I won't be offended, I could never be mad at you. Slide in my DMs or have your people call my people. Lots of love, your biggest fan x"
Subsequently an Ed Sheeran and Heinz Ketchup tv was shot and aired during 2019. To celebrate the 150th birthday, the special limited edition bottle was released, which were either given away to fans, auction for charity and donated to the V&A.
