Time Was Away

Print
circa 1948 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Since in colour lithography a separate stone or plate had to be prepared for each colour of an image, ‘progress proofs’ would be printed to allow the printer to see the development of an image as it built up, in case adjustments were needed. These proofs for a book cover designed by John Minton (1917–57) show the yellow and blue parts of the image printed separately before being combined, and the black line which was added on top of both colours to finish the image.
