Bowl of red earthenware, covered on the inside with a white slip, with sgraffito decoration painted in colours under a clear glaze. In the middle are the arms of the Borough of Birkenhead, with its motto 'UBI FIDES IBI LUX ET ROBUR'. The central medallion containing the arms is surrounded by four galleys arranged so as to form a square. On the sails of the galleys is an armorial shield bearing a lion rampant. The interspaces are filled in with shells and dolphins. The painting is in blue, yellow, green and crimson.
