Physical description

Bowl of red earthenware, covered with a white slip and decorated in sgraffito; it is painted in shades of green and manganese-purple and finally glazed. Shallow; decorated on the inside with a quatrefoil device filled in with conventional floral and foliated ornament.

Object history note

Della Robbia Pottery was established in Birkenhead, England in 1894. Founded by the painter, designer and poet Harold Steward Rathbone (1858-1929) and the sculptor Conrad Dressler (1856-1940).
