Jug of 'Pearlware' lead-glazed earthenware painted in high temperature underglaze colours ('Pratt-ware'). With relief decoration. Barrel-shaped with a cylindrical neck, projecting spout and foliate loop handle. On one side is the 'Sailor's Departure', a youth in striped blue trousers holds the hand of a fainting maiden in high hat and brown skirt, standing between trees with the sea and shipping behind. On the other side is the 'Sailor's Return', the youth just landed from the boat runs from the distant right to the maiden in the foreground. Triangular leaves on the neck and above the foot. Foliate relief on the front and back.
