1980
A leading authority on historic military uniforms, John Mollo’s expertise is evident in his costume designs for Star Wars (1977) and the sequel The Empire Strikes Back (1980). The Imperial Empire officers were designed to look efficient and authoritarian. For the rebel alliance, the costumes needed to have a second-hand quality, which created a distinct division between the two opposing factions.
