Historical context
This may have been worked up in the offices of a news journal such as the Illustrated London News or The Graphic, from a sketch sent from the Sudan by Prior. See Illustrated London News , Extra Supplement, April 12, 1884, pp.361 2, for Prior's `Battle of Tamasi: Gallant Re-Capture Of The Guns' worked up by W.H. Overend. This probably shows the same battle, in which the 1st Gordon Highlanders participated. Alternatively it is possible that SD.851 is by Prior himself.
