The Progress of Infantine Knowledge
Learning to Walk
Dear little Babe, robose lisping tongue,
With innocence, the Ear doth greet,
Mind what thy Mother oft hath sung,
"Dear Tommy mind & keep your feet".
Getting into Mischief
The Go-Cart's gone, the lad now walks,
The Matron's pleas'd & tells her tale,
But O! fond heart - while yet she talks,
Impending dangers him assail.
Growing Wise by Experience
His fingers burnt! - The Maxims true,
Which bids us "shun deceptions flame",
Yet painful tale, tho' no ways New,
That Boy & Man thro' life's the same!
