This is a medal of Pope Paul II, Pietro Barbo (1418-1471) made in Italy in about 1470. The obverse of this medal shows a bust of the Pope (he became Pope 1464), and the reverse shows the arms of the Pope surmounted by the papal tiara and keys. Pope Paul II was one of the most significant collectors of the 15th century in Italy. While pope, he undertook a programme of building and restoration to increase the magnificence of Rome.
