24. HAND BAG Made by Rialto, New York, U.S.A., 1950s Lucite T.217-1991 Lucite was developed during the 1940s and was much used in the 1950s to create ultra-modern bags like this one. In spite of the modernistic shape of this bag it is interesting to note that the lucite has been made to resemble natural and more costly tortoiseshell and the moulded foliate design on the clear lid is traditional. Lucite bags were made in a variety of shapes, colours and textures and were particularly popular in America.
