Artist/Maker
Place of origin

One of the most exciting and innovative textile makers in production today, Junichi Arai's work shows the finest qualities of traditional Japanese design using highly original methods of production. This piece was influenced by Kente cloths from Ghana and the effect was obtained from a photocopied image of folded cloth. Tightly twisted yarns were used in weaving causing the fabric to shrink in finishing. This gives the panel its characteristic elastic appearance and soft drape.
