Lilliputian Landscape or Puppets (a landscape fantasy)

Photograph
1954 (made)
Artist/Maker

Hawkins was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in the First World War. From 1929 he was one of the most prolific and influential pictorialists in Britain. However, in 1945 a fire destroyed much of his work. He used and wrote about the bromoil process that allowed for dramatic manipulation of photographs using inks and brushes. This scene suggests the pairs of trees are in close dialogue, much like the humans they dwarf.
