Object history | Ewin Eisch was one of the founders of the studio glass movement. In 1965, he set up Europe’s first studio glass furnace, within the building of the Eisch family glassworks. More than anyone, Eisch was responsible for developing glass as a material for artistic expression, liberating the material from its previous almost exclusive use for decorative objects. This vessel dates from a period when Eisch began combining his interest and skills in drawing, painting and engraving with his hot-glass experiments. This type of work has a lyrical quality and responds to the strong regional tradition of glass engraving which greatly influenced Eisch's own work and practice. |
