This image of pines in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria was created by the Hofmeister brothers, businessmen from Hamburg. Oskar was the photographer, and Theodor the printer. They hiked around the countryside making images that appeared in numerous books on German landscape. Their work also gained international recognition in art photography circles when it was published by Alfred Stieglitz in his deluxe journal, Camera Work, in 1904.
