Also to amuse her child friends, Potter wrote miniature letters and greetings cards, sometimes making post boxes and mail bags to accompany them. The letters folded and fastened to resemble envelopes complete with imitation ‘Penny Red’ stamps. Some are written as though between her book characters, while in others – often Christmas greetings – the character addresses the child.(March 2019)

Made for Margaret Hough. Acquired by the V&A from Leslie Linder (1904-1973) in 1973 as part of the Linder Bequest, a collection of ca. 2150 watercolours, drawings, literary manuscripts, correspondence, books, photographs, and other memorabilia associated with Beatrix Potter and her family.
