Historical context
Three similar studies with the same provenance are dated 1852, 1853, and 1854. SD.676:1-2 are copies of images by Amadeo Preziosi, versions of which exist in an album, sold Christie's 25.6.87 (132): see Preziosi notes. The version by Preziosi in the Christie's album is titled as `A Nubian selling Canes'..
