Place of origin |
Tin-glazed earthenware tile transfer-printed in red with a female stage performer wearing a checked cloak and holding out before her a festoon of flowers. Behind her are trees. The subject of an 'opera girl of Paris in the character of Flora' is from a print of this name by Grignion after Brandoin, published by Sayer in 1771. The '88' border, so-called from the centrally placed scrolls to left and right, is an indication of a post-1765 date, confirmed by the date of the print source.
