Strings of beads of carnelian, garnet, amethyst, typical of the Middle Kingdom, circa 2000-1600 B.C. and later strings of carnelian of mixed date (the faceted and uneven shaped beads are for the most part of later date. The stringings are modern. Most beads from Ancient Egypt have come from graves, as it was the custom to bury personal belongings with the dead. Given by University College, London. CIRC.26-1935 to CIRC.30-1935 were a collection of five groups of items, mounted on boards, given to the V&A by University College London in 1935. Each was intended to demonstrate the tradition of a type of Egyptian manufacture - slate palettes, amulets, necklaces and bracelets etc, typically from grave contexts.
