Indolence!
Playbill
(printed)
(printed)
The Theatre Royal Marylebone in Church Street, off Edgware Road, opened in 1831. It operated under many different names, including the Royal West London Theatre, and was well known in Victorian London for its fare of rousing melodramas and pantomimes. This playbill advertises an action-packed evening. It was a Benefit for the London-born actor James Elphinstone (ca.1815-1892), which meant that he took a percentage of the takings. He doubled as Bill Benbow, and Harry Blood in Indolence, which he would have chosen as the best showcase for his talents.
