Place of origin |
Circus Wonderland was founded in 2011 by Grace Arnett, Chris Freear and Paul Carpenter, as a traditional style of British circus. They also appear in the circus as the juggler Grace Olivia and the clown duo The Popolinos, with Chris as Kakehole, a typical 'auguste' clown with big boots and a red nose, and Paul as the elegant whiteface clown Mr. Popol, in an intricately seqinned one-piece suit or 'sac' and conical white hat.
Paul Carpenter, seen here playing the trumpet as Mr. Popol, had a background in theatre and magic before founding the circus, keeping alive the continental tradition of the clever clown with the white make-up, running rings round his clumsy counterpart the hobo-style 'auguste'.
