f.2v-r: Chants from ‘Feria V ad benedictus A’.
f.3v-r: Chants for Christmas, with a major incipit.
f.4r-v: Chants, headed ‘In Exaltatione sancta Crucis’ in a 17th-century hand, with a response.

Decoration: large ‘puzzle’ initials in red and blue, the height of 2 lines of music and text with penwork ornaments and half-fleur-de-lys running down the left-hand edge of the text with pen flourishing (ff. 1r, 2r, 3r).

Object history
Written in France (Paris?), ca. 1385-1400 for a Carthusian House, possibly Champmol (Burgundy).
(1) Annotated in a 17th-century script stating that the leaves are extracted from a choir book from the Charterhouse of Champmol, near Dijon (inscription: 'Extrait d'un livre de chant de la chartreuse de Champ-mol près Dijon').
(2) Bought in 1895 together with a 1578 Gradual printed by G. Chaudiere for the Charterhouse of Gaillon (corresponding to NAL 19-1895).
