ff. 67r-73v: Catholic Epistles
ff. 73v-108v: Pauline Epistles (Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews)
ff. 108v-116r: Apocalypse

Decoration: each book and Epistle, together with their prologues, has a 7- to 4-line illuminated initial, mostly decorative but some have figural motifs (ff. 1r, 14v, 74r, 23v, 39r, 51r, 70r, 73r, 81v, 91v, 93v, 95v, 97r, 99v, 102r, 103r, 104r).

Binding: 17th century, England. Red morocco, on boards with a frame of gold and blind fillets, floral corner-pieces and centrepiece. Tooling on spine to make 6 panels.

Object history
Written and illuminated in England in the third quarter of the 13th century apparently using an exemplar from the Augustinian priory of Thornton on Humber, Lincolnshire, as suggested by an inscription on f. 116r.

(1) Binding indicates ownership of William Crashawe (1572-1625/6) a Church of England clergyman and religious controversialist.
(2) Engraved book-plate of Charles Girdlestone (1797-1881), biblical scholar, inscribed to record his gift to his son Robert Baker Girdlestone (1836-1923).
(3) Collection of Henry John Beresford Clements (1869-1940), bequeathed to the V&A in 1940.
