The red lacquer bowl with lid and thin luted sides was produced by highly specialised craftsmen employed at the imperial court of Beijing. The interior of the bowl and the cover have a gilt incised inscription of a poem by the emperor Qianlong (1736-1795), comparing the object to a chrysanthemum flower. Both parts also bear the four character seal of his reign period. The date in the inscription corresponds to 1776.

Physical description

Fluted red lacquer bowl and lid shaped as chrisantemum petals. A poem of the emperor Qianlong is inscribed on the inner surface of both bowl and cover and both part bear the Qianlong seal mark.
