Physical description

Lacking title-page and imperfect ending.
758 pages. Folio format in sixes.
Bound about 1653 in England in calf. Covers with border and inner margin fillet tooled in blind, and with the arms of Thomas Harriot stamped in gold at the centres. The upper cover is additionally lettered "The gvift of Thomas Harriatt". With the brass fittings for leather and brass clasps remaining. Stained edges. Rebacked and repaired.

Object history note

Thomas Harriat (1588-1653): heraldic binding and bookplate inside the front cover reading 'THE GIFT OF THOMAS HARRIAT Esq CITIZEN & SKINNER OF LOND. BORN IN WOLLASTON IN THE COUNTY OF NORTHAMPT. THE 2d DAY OF NOVEMB. 1588 AND DECEASED THE 23 OF SEPTEMB. 1653.' R. Nash Bricknell: his bookplate on recto of the first flyleaf. Donated by Henry J.B. Clements in 1940.
