ARMCHAIR

Designer and maker unknown, probably German
about 1900

This dark stained tub-shaped armchair belongs to the Continental Arts and Crafts movement. Clearly an example of drafting-board rather than cabinetmakers furniture, this extravagant design is emblematic of the powerful sway that the New Art had over designers at the turn of the century.
