Object history
Bought for £2 from Delaunoy in Paris.
At the time of acquisition, this plateau was considered to be German or Swiss. Subsequently attributed to Krefeld.

The same style of decoration for the horse rider can be seen on a dish attributed to Hoerstgen, dated 1738 (Niederrheinisches, n.231). The horse and rider are left in the white slip with small details such as the hat, cuffs and buttons of the rider are picked out in colours. The Hoerstgen dish commemorates the marriage of Hagh and Rich. Hoerstgen and Krefeld are both in the Lower Rhineland. The rest of the decoration on this dish is different to this one.

Another large dish (Niederrheinisches, n.346) bears very similar floral decoration in its borders. It is attributed to Rayen and is dated 1763.

There is another dish bearing the inscribed name of 'Peter Menten' (Niederrheinisches nr.440).
