Physical description
Part 1: Tunic (S.5:1-2018)

Heavy black cotton corduroy tunic decorated with wide bands of orange silk [?] and darker orange braid. The tunic has a soft round upstanding collar, a wide shoulder line and flared, panelled skirt. The shoulder line is formed from a stiff inverted semicircle of material which is padded with foam and stiffened at the edges which are bound in orange silk. The skirt is constructed from box pleated panels of black cotton corduroy which are linked together with thick lengths of thread. Lengths of orange silk run vertically down the rear of the skirt and in a horizontal band around the hem. The hem is stiffened with narrow lengths of plastic, some of which have emerged through the fabric at the base of the tunic.
The tunic has an integral belt at the waist. This is formed from panels of black corduroy and orange silk. It runs in a straight line across the centre front, and rises up into a rectangular shape at the centre back. It is secured at the proper right side of the front waist with a pair of hooks and bars and a pair of press studs.
The tunic is lined with a plain black cotton and a production label is present at the interior of the neckline. This label documents the ‘Production: Mikado’; ‘Character: Guard’; and ‘Name: Howard Peter

Part 2: Trousers (S.5:2-2018)

Heavyweight ribbed black cotton trousers. The trousers are very full in the leg but gathered with elastic at the waistline, flaring towards the ankle. There is a tape label at the interior waistline. The trousers hemmed by hand at the base.
