The cast included Ellen Terry as Margaret, Henry Irving as Mephistopheles, and George Alexander as Faust. Alexander replaced H.B. Conway as Faust after a disastrous opening. With Alexander as Faust, the production was incredibly successful, and was performed for three years between 1885 and 1888. It also introduced launched George Alexander's career into the mainstream, and formed part of Henry Irving's run as Actor-Manager at the Lyceum.
