Man’s waistcoat with a round neck, curved fronts reaching to mid-thigh with a shape pocket flap and pocket opening on each front. It has curved, 2-piece sleeves reaching to between the elbow and wrist. The fronts,back skirts, pocket flaps and ends of the sleeves are made of ivory silk brocaded with coloured silks, silver and silver-gilt strip and filé, in a pattern of blue and pink floral motifs over a fish-scale design. The sleeves and back are made of ivory silk figured in a diamond pattern. The waistcoat is lined with fustian; the skirts are lined with and the fronts faced with ivory silk twill. There are 12 worked buttonholes on the left front from neck to waist and 18 silver and silver-gilt passementerie buttons on the right front from neck to hem, and 3 under each pocket.

The waistcoat has been altered, possibly for another wearer or change in size of the original wearer. The centre back seam was unpicked the edges turned and felled and 18 eyelets, asymmetrically arranged, on each side of the centre back for a lacing.
