Model of a Boot
ca. 1820-1860 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Models of shoes and boots seem to have been made throughout Europe in the mid-18th century and were also made in the mid-19th century. Many were made as snuff boxes, to carry the powdered tobacco which was widely popular, but this small boot shows no evidence of a stopper, and could not have been used for shuff. It is also slightly unusual in being made in the form of the heavy boots used by riders and coachmen, rather than an everyday shoe or boot. Even the fitting for the spur has been carved.
