SUMMER OUTFIT (jacket and skirt) machine-knitted acrylic and nylon British: Bill Gibb, Spring 1976. The V necked jacket has a square yoke decorated with tassels. The skirt is shirred with elastic at the waist, has long side slits and three bows at the front which match the ties of the jacket. All edges are overlockstitched by machine. The use of fancy spun (gimp) yarns give an interesting texture to the fabric. The decorative patterns for Bill Gibb's influential range of knitwear were produced in collaboration with Kaffe Fassett. They found a sympathetic manufacturer who normally knitted large orders for the British forces. His enthusiasm for the venture was sadly not matched by his workforce when they encountered technical difficulties in using many colours and fancy yarns. Given by Kaffe Fassett T.162&A-1980(1985)
