Object history
According to Rodney Searight: - 'Bt M.Strange, Sept. 1970 £15'.
Historical context
A version of the watercolour, in reverse and with several improvements, is reproduced as a lithograph in Francis Henry Salvin and William Brodrick, Falconry in the British Isles, 2nd. edn.,1873, Pl.XXI (an addition to the earlier 1855 edition of the book). Each plate in this book is lettered W Brodrick lith. It is possible that the watercolour was executed by another artist but used by Brodrick as the basis for his lithograph. Brodrick also published Falconers' Favourites, 1865.
