HANGING Cotton, mordant-dyed and resist-dyed (‘chintz’) Coromandel Coast, South-East India 1700-25 IS.18-1976 Square pieces like this were popular with the Dutch market, and several survive with Dutch coats of arms in the design. This one, however, gives all the space of the central field over to exotic birds and flowers. These are in the hybrid style typical of the period, with a mix of Chinese and western motifs.(27/9/2013)
