ANDREA PALLADIO'S FOUR BOOKS OF ARCHITECTURE 1738 The famous Four Books of Architecture by the architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) were first published in Italy in 1570. They included his own as well as ancient Roman buildings. In the 18th century they became a vital source of design for Palladian architects. The English translation was sponsored by Lord Burlington.
