Object history
This design is possibly that submitted to Queen Victoria in January 1863. This drawing, made before the addition of another story to the spire, shows details in the design of the canopy and of the statue of the Prince which differ from those of the completed monument. Another drawing, prepared under the architect's supervision, showing the same design as the above was reproduced on pp. 48-49, vol. 43 of the Illustrated London News, July 1863.
