The body of the teapot is composed of two shells soldered together along a raised seam on a tilted axis. The front is a section of a sphere to which is attached a sloping spout tapering towards the aperture. The rear section forms the segment of a sphere and the grip is a concave narrow strip with an ebony insert. The interior of the teapot is gilded. The perspex lid is in the form of a shallow hemisphere with a semi-circular, half-round moulding along the front edge. The handle of the lid is a fin-shaped section which radiates from the centre to the front edge.

Object history
Part of a tea service which was a prototype for the series of eleven tea and coffee services commissioned from architects by Officina Alessi, a division of Alessi S.p.A., Milan, and made in a limited edition in silver. One additional cover in glass comes from the production series and shows an improved fit over the perspex prototype.
