Shop model of Ladybird house, made by Fred Pearl, ca.1950-ca.1969
Physical description
Model made for a shop window display. The model rests on a flat wooden square base with rounded corners. On to this is built a house made of plaster and painted, the frontage is yellow and the roof is reddish-brown. The house has been constructed to look like a "tumble-down" style shop. The proportions of the building are exagerated and the long pitched roof extends almost to the ground.. There is a bay window on the front of the building, a shop sign 'Ladybird Shop'. There is a blue front dooe and marching shutters on the windows with cut out hearts on them. Fake grassskirts around the edges of the building. At the fron of the shop there are two ladybird men. their bodies are constucted from wire and plaster, and where their joints have been bent some of the plaster is crumbling. They have black and red wings and more human legs arms and faces.

Fred Pearl made this pattern when he worked for toy manufacturer, Pedigree. The patterns and moulds and parts, collectively demonstrate the doll and toy making processes.
