Daguerreotype of a three-quarter length portrait of an old lady, seated by a table, wearing a bonnet and lace collar and cuffs. She is holding a book in her left hand, which is resting on the table. The daguerreotype is in a gold-coloured mount with a rectangular arched window. It has been glazed and is mounted in the bottom half of a leather-coated wooden case. The glazing has a velvet trim. There are parts of two hook fastenings on the left side.
