Statue of Venus and Adonis

Photograph
mid 19th century (photographed)

Daguerreotype of a full-length statue of Venus and Adonis. Possibly the sculpture by Antonio Canova made in 1794. The image is very indistinct and faded; the plate is heavily tarnished. This daguerreotype is a separate plate, with a thin cardboard border and a sheet of glass. These are all loose elements, though they are stored together. The original casing seems to have been lost.
