Daguerreotype made directly from a painting called 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' by William Powell Frith in 1843, after the play by William Shakespeare. It depicts the scene where Falstaff attempts to seduce Mrs. Ford. The daguerreotype is in a cream card mount and glazed. The verso of the object is backed with paper and tape. The mount and glazing are held together with a black tape edging.
