Object history
Although there is no label to identify the milliner, this ingeniously designed hat takes a Napoleon-era bicorn of the early 19th century as its source of inspiration, reproducing all the details of the classic bicorn but without creating a pastiche. The end result is a completely updated re-interpretation of the bicorn that is absolutely chic and fashionable for c.1950, rather than a direct copy of an antique hat. This hat was created by a very skilled milliner, and indeed, has strong similarities to the work of the Royal milliner Aage Thaarup, who was known for his use of found objects for trimming (such as the ornamental buckle).
