ca. 1920 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Pair of black patent leather shoes and polished wood shoe trees.

Shoes of black patent leather with an abstract design cut out at the front and back to reveal a backing of beige grosgrain. They have a low cut front with a square toe and a low heel. Three tabs project from each side of the she across the instep and are laced through with a cord of twisted metal thread. Lined throughout with red leather.

Shoe trees of polished wood, each constructed in two halves. The wedge-shaped heel section has a metal runner, and there is a corresponding channel in the main section which is thus slid down into the shoe. The area which remains visible when the shoe tree is in position is protected by a metal plate.
