| Object history | This hat is said to have been worn by the Empress Eugenie in 1865-1870, however the style indicates a later date of c. 1897 and therefore cannot be linked to Empress Eugenie. The hat was originally described as sable fur, but has since been identified by a furrier as pine marten. The hat was displayed in "Fashion: An Anthology" by Cecil Beaton, 1971-72. |
