Manuals describing a ‘good death’, which included confession and the Last Rites, appeared from the early 15th century. The dying man is submitted to a series of temptations which he has to overcome for his soul to be allowed into Heaven. Here demons tempt him into remaining attached to earthly things and people instead of wholly turning towards God and the afterlife. (24/03/2018)
