Venus Flutterby

Wallpaper
ca. 2006 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

A recent development in the field of wallpaper design is the wallpaper which the buyer can modify or customise for themselves, in order to achieve a finished effect adapted to personal taste and choice.

Jenny Wilkinson’s witty ‘paint-by-numbers’ papers are characteristic of this trend towards a DIY version of the bespoke wallpaper. Her patterns vary from the bold confident almost abstract patterns such as ‘Gerbera’ and ‘Hammerheads’ to the playful pictorial design ‘Tilly’, a domestic scene in itself, with dog and potted plants. Such papers are often bought for children’s bedrooms, nurseries and playrooms. Some customers prefer to keep the papers uncoloured, as outline graphics.
