Monkeys have been popular soft toys since the beginning of the twentieth century. The German soft toy company Steiff began making monkeys at the end of the nineteenth century and until 1914 this type of Steiff toy sold better than any other apart from the teddy bear. Steiff's best known monkey was called Jocko.
