Physical description

Maroon grosgrain bolero with cutaway curved fronts, puff sleeves pleated into shoulder, and matching ankle-length flared skirt with a high waist with a square front flap with eyelets, presumably for lacing. Neither garment is lined. The outfit was originally grey, but was redyed maroon during its period of wear.

Object history note

These garments do not seem to be described in the catalogue of known James designs in Elizabeth Ann Coleman's book, "The Genius of Charles James" (published 1983).
