The construction of this piece employs a marbling technique mastered by Korean potters during the Koryo period (918-1392) known as yeollimun. Roe has revived this difficult technique, tempering and combining clays of different colours. His work engages with the richness of the Koryo tradition while embracing a modernist simplicity.
