This porcelain salt dish was made in China for the European export market and dates to around 1650. It is decorated with coloured enamels and gilding. The figure's dress and pose would have been considered highly exotic at the time of manufacture.

Physical description

This salt dish incorporates a kneeling figure wearing a turban, blue robe and red cloak as well as a small tree trunk on which the salt container rests. It is decorated with coloured enamels. Probably copying a Meissen figure modelled by Eherlein of ca. 1746.
