Sarah Siddons (1755-1831) played Mrs. Haller in The Stranger by August von Kotzebue (1761-1819), with her brother John Philip Kemble (1757-1823) in the title role, at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1798. The original painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) after which this print was made, is in the collection of the Tate Gallery (N000785), bequeathed in 1868 by Mrs. Siddons' youngest daughter, Cecilia Combe. Another engraving by James Thomson after the painting was published by Simpkin & Marshall in 1820.

Engraving of Sarah Siddons as Mrs Haller in The Stranger, after the portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence. The print shows Mrs Siddons seated, wearing a white dress with a sash and a white headdress, seated in front of drapery. The print is mounted on brown card. On the reverse of the card is a postcard of the portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Mrs Siddons is depicted seated, wearing a white dress with a blue-green sash and a white headdress. She wears a gold chain necklace and a blue-green jacket lined in pink.
